The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley
Scenario
After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, plays a game to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the bat signal in the last shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson in the lead role in “The Penguin.” In this short video IMDb tries to answer: Where the hell was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to have his version of the Penguin smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but failed. For his own series, however, the character is depicted as an occasional smoker, with a penchant for cigars..
Absolutely nailed the tone and atmosphere
The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Featured in Graham Norton and guests: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). It’s gritty, dark and gritty, but Farrell manages to capture that bit of charm that Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano did.
Where to begin with Farrell
There are similarities to the Sopranos, especially in tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff coming into this opening episode, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone and they don’t undermine him. Incredible is the right word. I love seeing talented star actors invest themselves in roles like this, and the makeup/cgi or whatever exactly they did with the transformation into the penguin physically not only passes the eye test, but looks incredibly realistic.
And Farrell, as an actor, is completely really got into this role
There’s always a risk that if the makeup job isn’t good enough or is just a little off, it can completely detract. In the case of the penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a damn good job. I may be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this series, but I think this will bring him the praise he deserves. I never really tune into new series right away because I like to watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out.
Kudos to everyone involved in this project
It didn’t disappoint me, in fact it blew me away. Check out our recap " Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 2, "Squid Game" Season 2 and more highly anticipated new series returning to TV and streaming.
