A Montana ranching family faces off against others who encroach on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts to the SoCal voice he usually uses.

(Review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are great. It’s basically a Montana gang war with occasional massive doses of testosterone (armored cowboys on horseback while they fish)! Costner is a great actor in the lead role of The Duttons.
The show is stuck at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through
The series is at its best when it shows the chessboard moves that the Duttons and their enemies engage in. Kelsey Asbill is the weak link as Monica and plays her part poorly, the plot is awkwardly abandoned and the acting is nowhere near up to par. I think Cole Hauser as Rip is probably the best actor (besides Costner himself) and I looked forward to every scene Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is moving and the setting is great. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this episode is in the same vein. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
